Yeah that's right I have nothing better to do on this snow day (by the way, school now ends on June 3rd, sigh) than talk about a stupid video game story between my brother and I.
Okay, I have a low tolerance for scary video games (movies I can handle just fine), so I have no idea what i was thinking when i bought the game Dead Space. I guess I figured I could watch Simon play it or something while I sat at a good distance away from the screen with the lights on and the volume low.
I actually did cave in and play the first five-ten minutes of it and then I just kind of handed it off to Simon after I ran out of ammo shooting the monster thing that was trying to kill me and had to resort to cutting the thing's head off (ps I am a huge ammo waster in video games). That and the messages on the walls telling me to "Cut off the limbs" written in blood with falty lighting and creepy background music was getting to me.
What i didn't realise though, was that Simon also cannot play scary video games very well...I think we get it from mom... but he took the controller anyway and he got pretty far. I gave him advice and pointers and yelled at him to turn around and all that crap while I was sitting in the second seat (I'm like Navi from LoZ, only useful...at times).
So he was doing really good until we came across this bent hallway after exiting this weird experiment room with what looked like babies floating in some kind of liquid (they sneak attack you by the way). Once you step into the hallway, the lights blow out and they start to flicker and the music that was playing just a second ago just stops. Instead its replaced by this constant thud, thud, thud. I'm telling you it sounded exactly like the sound of heavy boots on a metal floor, which was something bad in this game, because your character is the only one that makes that sound.
Simon just stopped right there at the entrance to the hall and we just kind of look at eachother while the thudding keeps going. I thought that whatever was walking would turn the corner eventually and just attack him, but after a few seconds of just standing there, nothing happened and the thuds kept going. So I was like, "Just go down the hall. If something is coming, meet it halfway...get it over with." (When we're playing video games together is probably the only time Simon actually takes my advice, because he trusts my strategic skills or something like that, my ability to plan ahead) So he does what I tell him to and walks slowly down the hall and the thudding gets louder and louder. At this point we're both kind of shivering in anticipation, a trait we share when it comes to this stuff.
He turned the bend in the hall and there is an opening to another room with this shadow kind of leaning through the doorway, moving back and forth in time with the thuds. Simon stopped in the hall again and we just waited for the shadow to come closer or soemthing. But it didn't move and it made me confused. I said, "It's not coming toward you, just go to it." What could this thing be? Was it good or bad?
Well we found out when Simon inched towards the doorway and stopped, the game wouldn't let him move at the moment because the camera had just zoomed in on the thing making the thuds. Turns out it was someone from the original crew, banging their head off a metal wall repeatedly. There was blood everywhere and me and Simon just kind of froze when we saw the guy. When the game moved your character forward the guy bangs his head off the wall really hard and blood spatters everywhere and then he just slips to the floor, dead.
Simon and me: O.O
It wasn't so much of a scary moment as a well timed tension filled moment that just made you think, "What...the...F@$k? Holy S!%t. What is wrong with this place!?"
Simon just dropped the controller and switched the game off while I just sat there. And he says, "Yeah, I think I'm done for the day."
Guess what? We're not even halfway through the game yet. And I heard there was another moment like that later on with a girl cutting up this guy that was still alive with a butcher knife and when you come into the room she looks over at you and smiles like you're her savior or something, and then she cuts her throat right in front of you.
Oh my...
You and Simon are just completely messed up to have even bought that game. What teh bleep was that. I'm sitting here reading this and all i can think is 'dear god, dear lord, dear vague muscular man with a beard or a sword' ...lol
